Low vitamin D levels in blood

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium from foods. The calcium is used to strengthen bones.

Vitamin D is found in some foods such as margarine and butter. When exposed to sunlight, the skin makes vitamin D. Unfortunately the body can't make use of the vitamin D from either of these sources until the kidneys have modified it into an active form.
