Goal setting - Many people find it very helpful to set themselves realistic and achievable goals, for example regular exercise or going out. This helps reinforce the feeling that you are in control of the disease.
A sense of humor - This an important element, it may take you a while to rediscover your "lighter side" after your illness is diagnosed, but when you do it will make a tremendous difference to how you feel! Laughter is often the best medicine.
Faith - Some people find their faith gives them particular strength at this time, while others find it difficult to reconcile their faith with their diagnosis. In either case, talk to someone from your church or place of worship about your feelings.
