Glomerulonephritis
This is the name for a group of diseases that cause inflammation of the glomeruli, the tiny filters in the kidney. Inflammation may be due to infection or to other causes. Infection is a rare cause of kidney failure, especially in adults. Some types of glomerulonephritis respond to treatment with immunosuppressants. These drugs suppress the immune system, which means that the damage to the kidneys can be slowed or in some cases, reversed.
