Travel
Travel is a wonderful gift that allows patients to see and experience exciting sites and various cultures, or visit with far away family and friends.
There are few limitations on where you can vacation or on what sort of vacation you can take. Most dialysis patients can travel anywhere in the world.
Because special arrangements will need to be made in advance, it is essential that you check with your healthcare team before planning or booking any trip.
Planning is the key to any successful trip, whether in our own country or abroad. Dialysis patients will have to do a little more planning than most travelers and there is plenty of help available with the planning process. Your doctor or nurse can help you decide if you are ready to travel. They can advise you as to suitable destinations given the type of therapy you will need while away. They can help you make appointments in other Dialysis centers so you can be monitored or treated while traveling.
Your doctor can also provide you with information on any immunizations required.
Short trips away are possible for patients on dialysis. Those on hemodialysis can plan a short trip away in-between dialysis sessions. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients on the other hand are free to travel anytime. Just make sure that you check with you Dialysis center.
Baxter HomeCare Services Travel Specialists are ready to help patients successfully continue their PD therapy while exploring the U.S. or the world abroad. Our Global Destinations travel program is designed for PD patients who travel internationally, visit Alaska or Hawaii, or take a cruise. Call your Baxter Travel Specialist for more information.
