Side effects of EPO

The most common side effect, though rare, of EPO is an increase in blood pressure. This is most likely in patients who already have high blood pressure. Careful monitoring of blood pressure is important for all patients receiving EPO. Occasionally, a combination of EPO and high blood pressure can cause seizures. Treating the high blood pressure can usually prevent this.
